Markus Korselt appeared with the Munich Symphony Orchestra in the Herkulessaal and the Prinzregenten Theatre. Some of the best german chamber orchestras followed: Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim (chamber orchestra of Mannheim) and Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim (chamber orchestra of south-western Germany and the city of Pforzheim).

A broad musical development has prepared the way for this performance.  Born in Herdecke in 1975, Korselt gathered his first conducting experience at the young age of 17, directing the Waldorf Symphony Orchestra in Munich.  After receiving guidance from Sergiu Celibidache and Jorma Panula, Korselt studied conducting privately with Klaus Eisenmann in Mannheim. He gained further important stimulation working as a cellist with the Vienna Philharmonic, which allowed him to learn first-hand from renowned conductors.

In order to gain musical experience in addition to conducting, Korselt initially studied Cello, graduating from the Concert Class in Vienna with honours. In 1998, he won the prize of the “Austrian Interpretengesellschaft”, as well as the “Gottfried-von-Einem” prize.

Following this, Korselt performed with various ensembles at the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Festival (Wiener Festwochen) and the Beethoven-Festival-Bonn.  As artistic director of the Ars Mundi Ensemble he was invited to represent Austria at the Kyoto International Music Students Festival. As a soloist, he has performed the great cello concerti in renowned halls, such as the Herkulessaal in Munich.  Orchestra engagements as Principal Cellist include the venerable Loh-Orchestra in Thüringen (Germany), as Associate Principal in the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg as well as the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.

In 2005, Korselt relocated to the “Bach City” of Leipzig, in order to further his study of historically informed performance practise.

Markus Korselt currently lives in Saarbrücken, where beside his engagement at the National Opera he is the artistic director and principal conductor of the Homburg Chamber-Symphony Orchestra.  Under his direction, the concerts have long since grown to be an inter-regional attraction. Outstanding soloists like Tabea Zimmermann, Gustav Rivinius, Bernd Glemser or Alison Browner played with the HKSO. “Magnificent”, “Furioso” “Marvellously disposed” wrote the Saarbrueckener Zeitung and the Pfälzischer Merkur of this year’s New Year’s concerts.  The Saarland Radio has made several televised and radio portraits of Korselt and the Orchestra.

Alongside the great symphonies, the orchestra regularly includes “discoveries” in their repertoire – From historically informed performance to world premieres.
